XSeaO2
Ecole Polytechnique Lake where the XSeaO2 demonstrator will be installed
In a carbon cycle logic, XSeaO2 is a research demonstrator dedicated to the capture of atmospheric CO2 and the production of synthetic fuels from CO2 dissolved in water, for the supply of existing thermal engines. Powered by low-carbon energy with floating solar panels and battery storage, it aims to study the feasibility of floating platforms for the production of e-fuels, with a view to deployment in the marine environment. In addition to efforts to reduce emissions, it explores solutions for capturing and reusing the CO2 already present in the environment.
- Carbon volume concentration 10 times higher in water than in air
- > 1000 m2 of total surface area on the École Polytechnique lake
- 280 m2 of photovoltaic modules, 59 kWp (118 modules) for about 60 MWh of annual production
- 10 kgCO2 extracted and 5 liters of fuels produced per day
- Laboratories involved: LCM, UCP, LMD, LPICM
