Over the past decade, demand for renewable energy sources has increased exponentially, and the photovoltaic (PV) industry has undergone unprecedented expansion, driving the rapid scale-up of production through the gigafactory model. However, this growth has also resulted in a significant centralization of manufacturing in Asia, raising concerns about supply chain dependencies and regional imbalances.This intervention will explore how market evolution and technological innovations, combined with industrialization strategies, have transformed the PV sector over the last 10 years. Using the example of PV modules, we will address the challenges and opportunities associated with reshoring a sustainable and resilient PV manufacturing in Europe.
