Coriolis Seminar - Challenges for battery industry with growth of BEVs
The battery industry is experiencing significant growth and innovation, primarily driven by electric vehicles (BEVs) with major battery companies and automakers investing heavily in production capacity, but also renewable energy storage, and consumer electronics. Lithium-ion batteries remains the dominant technology with focus on improving all aspects of battery performance and cost-effectiveness. The supply chain faces very strong challenges, including the availability of raw materials, as well as equipment supply for battery manufacturing, requiring continually innovations to improve production efficiency, recycling, quality, and safety. Battery manufacturing Gigafactories are expanding fast to meet the rising demand, supported by governments worldwide with policies to promote battery technology development and facilitate the shift toward clean energy solutions. In this context, several actors start to grow very large gigafactories. ACC is part of this movement since 2020, with strong ambitions to lead in Europe, starting in France but soon followed by German and Italian operations.
